How can two total strangers::

become friends in an instant... never having met face to face?

How can two total strangers::

How can two total strangers::

Week 1- Be Blessed Psalm 119 Challenge

Welcome to WEEK #1 of the Psalm 119 Challenge. Read Here, to catch up.

My tip for this week is to cut and paste images into a word document.
Or feel free to draw your own.

Psalm 119: 1-8
(click image to make larger)

Read the 8 verses while looking at the images over and over. Pretty soon, just look at the images and not the words. You will be surprised how much you can remember! I think I might do a different page for the next 8 verses, once I have these down pat. Do you think this might work for you?

This was extremely helpful for me (since I am such a visual learner).

What about you? What insight can you share? What helps you memorize scripture?

Want to join the Be Blessed Community? Just comment below and I'll add you to this fun adventure of memorizing Psalm 119.

Here is the Be Blessed Button code for you to copy to your sidebar:

WE Will NOT be meeting next week. Enjoy Thanksgiving with your family. We will pick up the following Thursday.

Link up with your post below. What have you learned? What has helped you the most? What was your greatest struggle? Please kindly include the code above so that others may join.

If Heather's little 4-year-old Emily can memorize scripture, surly we can! Let THIS inspire you! It's so so precious!.

Stained Walls

John Fletcher, eighteenth-century theologian, was said to have stained the walls of his chamber with the breath of his prayers lifted up.

If the breath of your prayers, could be numbered; would they stain your walls?

WOW! Your thoughts?

High Heels

I have a new found LOVE... for high heels!

They make me feel -

oh so pretty and feminine.

surprisingly confident.

fun and adventurous.

Here are my 2 pair I own:

You see, I was always a chunky heeled girl.

I've changed.

What about you? Do you share this same love? How do they make you feel?

The fact is,
I do not always feel thankful. It sometimes takes work, to look up to the heavenly instead of wallowing in the earthly. But, when I choose to look for things to thank my Father for, my heart is changed... from a drooping-downcast spirit
to a heart that overflows with pure and utter JOY

Psalm 43:5
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

My Countdown To 1,000 Gifts of Gratitude

:: popcorn date with sweet toddler girl
:: our feet dangle over couch, hands in bowl, hearts knit together
:: she puts her hand on my shoulder and tells me I'm the best
:: my cup overflows

:: a teething 10-month-old
:: stealing extra cuddle time
:: warm smooches
:: cheek to cheek, lingering long
:: special baby-breath smell
:: singing soft melodies
:: humming sweet words
:: his body growing limp in my arms
:: a crooked smile peaks from behind his binky
:: I contemplate staying right there, in that moment, forever

:: a confident husband
:: hanging proudly on his arm, at a work event
:: hearing from everyone what a wonderful, hard-working man he is
:: I smile, I agree, I am thankful
:: sitting close together, his strong arm around my shoulder
:: we read God's Word, we share, we sharpen one another, we cleave

:: we have an argument
:: hurtful words are lashed out
:: selfishness is winning and yielding its ugly head
:: we cool down
:: "I'm sorry" and "will you forgive me" are spoken with sincerity
:: hearts are mended, the balm of forgiveness is spread out

:: a good song, with lyrics that point my heart to Him
:: "Praise you, Jesus" rolls off my lips, Holy Spirit initiated
:: an encouraging phone call from an old friend
:: we chat about life and how good our God is
:: we cry
:: we share burdens
:: we live to be "real"
:: we breath a sigh of relief

Be Blessed Challenge: Psalm 119 (Some Updates and Questions For You)

Please Welcome The "Be Blessed" Community of Ladies:
(Just let me know if you want to be added)

My Life For Yours
Mrs. Adept
Heather Lyn
Pat Schaerdel
Striving To Give All Diligence

***UPDATE: We will plan to meet every Thursday. There will be an opportunity for you to link up with updates on how things are going, encouraging results in your journey, and the opportunity for you to share tips on how you memorize scripture.***

I'm super excited about the vision God has given me for this, but even more, the response from all of you wonderful women!

If you have no clue what I'm talking about, Read Here.

A few things:

1. A lot of you, in your nice sweet way, have called me crazy , out of my mind, a little far fetched for taking on such a challenge.

My response: Don't focus on the "task" of memorizing the whole chapter. That can be overwhelming. Even if you end up memorizing just 8 verses out of the whole chapter; that's great! That is 8 more verses that you have hidden in your heart. That is 8 more verses that you can call to remembrance when you are in a deep, dark valley of life. That is 8 more verses that will redirect your heart and mind, to think on the heavenly, not the earthly.

2. Do you want me to do a post about it weekly? A "link-up" style, where we can all encourage one another, give testimony of how the Lord is working through this challenge in your life? Maybe some ways, tricks, tips that you have that help you memorize God's Word?

3. I have updated the button (made it a bit smaller for your sidebar). Also, it will include all the posts relating to this challenge. See new code below:

<a href=""><img src=""/>

4. I would LOVE to add your name/blog link to a "community list" on this post if you would like to join. Please let me know if I can add you, by commenting below. Thanks girls!

Be Blessed

It is so important to memorize scripture. I know the benefits. I have experienced the power. Why don't I do it more? Hmmm.

His Word is powerful. Quick. Sharper than a two edged sword. It pierces deep, even into the joints and marrow. It is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of our heart. Hebrews 4:12

Every time I read Psalm 119 I'm blessed. It is filled to the brim with practical truth and encouragement. That is why I want to commit it to memory. Hide it in my heart. Be able to call on its richness wherever I am. I know what you are thinking... It's so long! That is why I will work on it 8 verses at a time.

Did you know:

Psalm 119 is broken down into 22 sections of 8 verses. Each begins with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. How cool is that!

Some tips when memorizing scripture:

1. Read each verse, over and over

2. Write it out, over and over

3. Sing the words to a familiar tune (this is a great way to commit scripture to memory)

4. Carry around 8 verses at a time, written on an index card. Memorize them in the car, when you are waiting in line, when your hands are deep in sudsy warmth, or even when you are in the shower (just make sure to laminate the paper, hehe). Be creative!

So, who wants to join me? It may take a whole year, I know. But, it may not take that long. I would LOVE to hear of the blessings that are coming from hiding this nugget of scripture in your heart.

I have this scripture in a Word doc. that I would be happy to send to you.

email me : curly2880(@)yahoo(.)com

I would suggest cutting out each section of 8 verses, and taping it onto a piece of construction paper, or large index card.

Or Maybe Not, Not Today

Every time it happens, I get teary; raise a hand in praise; bow a heart in frailty; thank Him for visiting me... through a song. Be Blessed.
**First Song On Playlist**
Make sure your volume is up.

Gratitude, Nichole Nordeman

Send some rain, would You send some rain?
'Cause the earth is dry and needs to drink again
And the sun is high and we are sinking in the shade

Would You send a cloud, thunder long and loud?
Let the sky grow black and send some mercy down
Surely You can see that we are thirsty and afraid

But maybe not, not today
Maybe You'll provide in other ways
And if that's the case . . .

We'll give thanks to You
With gratitude
For lessons learned in how to thirst for You
How to bless the very sun that warms our face
If You never send us rain

Daily bread, give us daily bread
Bless our bodies, keep our children fed
Fill our cups, then fill them up again tonight
Wrap us up and warm us through

Tucked away beneath our sturdy roofs
Let us slumber safe from danger's view this time
Or maybe not, not today
Maybe You'll provide in other ways
And if that's the case . . .

We'll give thanks to You
With gratitude
A lesson learned to hunger after You
That a starry sky offers a better view if no roof is overhead
And if we never taste that bread

Oh, the differences that often are between
What we want and what we really need

So grant us peace, Jesus, grant us peace
Move our hearts to hear a single beat
Between alibis and enemies tonight
Or maybe not, not today
Peace might be another world away
And if that's the case . . .

We'll give thanks to You
With gratitude
For lessons learned in how to trust in You
That we are blessed beyond what we could ever dream
In abundance or in need
And if You never grant us peace

But Jesus, would You please . . .

Ann asks, what one spiritual practice has helped you most on your journey with Christ?

holy experience

Hmmmm... wheels cranking, heart seeking, head spinning; just one?

I would have to say OBEDIENCE.

Sing with me: O - B - E - D - I - E - N - C - E...
Obedience is the very best way
To show that you believe:
Doing exactly what the Lord commands,
Doing it happily.
Action is the key--do it immediately,
The joy you will receive!
Obedience is the very best way
To show that you believe.
O-B-E-D-I-E-N-C-E (Yes, sir!)
Obedience is the very best way
To show that you believe."

Do you remember singing that catchy tune as a small child? I was more concerned with trying to memorize the word itself, and saying it faster than the child next to me; for I was always up for a good competition. Who am I kidding, I still am!

Now that I'm an adult (eek), a wife (wow), a mom of 2 (ahhh) . . . I am daily examining myself before the mirror of God's Word. Not that I wasn't before I had those titles; but each new phase of life, brings about a beautiful test of our will.

Our will :: or the Lord's?

Our will :: or sacrificing time and energy to show affection for our spouse?

Our will :: or selflessly loving, caring, nurturing, equipping, disciplining, our children?

Our will :: or daily dying to our flesh, and obeying Him above all else?

Isn't obedience the key? When I am obedient, everything else makes sense! I am in His Perfect Will; therefore, I am content, whatever state I am in.

When my flesh is nagging at me to accomplish my wants, my to-do-list, my plans for the day; and the Lord is gently leading me in another direction;

Do I choose MY way;

or will I be obedient to my Father?

When MY will seems overpowering, when I am stressed to the max, when I yell at my kids, when I feel like pulling out every last strand of hair... do I wallow in MY "selfish state";

or will I be obedient to my Father, and confess my sin?

When MY weary body doesn't want to emerge from those warm, comfy covers; but He is calling my name: "Come spend time with my in prayer and reading of my WORD". Do I make excuses and throw the covers over my groggy, sleepy-seeded-eyes, and messy hair self?

or will I be obedient to my Father, who has the best intentions, best plans, best everything in mind, when He calls me to obey? Jeremiah 9:11-13

OBEDIENCE is hard.

It is a choice.

Sometimes a split-second decision, that will determine the course of our day.

Obedience always brings beautiful blessing; even when we don't understand or see the ending.

Just as the song says "The JOY you will receive"!

Disobedience will be bring lonely consequences.

1 Sam 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

What are your thoughts?

Seeking Beauty All Around

Yesterday I was given a gift; a timeless opportunity to ride along with my husband, on the job.
I saw many of the farms he works with.
The people. The labor.

Over at Holy Experience, Ann is talking about capturing the beauty in life. If my camera lens could capture all of what I saw yesterday, I think it just might burst! Here are some of the glorious sites I was able to "bottle-up" for you:

91 :: the bending of some corn stalks;
92 :: the beautiful backdrop of a picture-perfect blue sky;

93 :: perfect rows, ready for harvesting;
94 :: a slight, cool breeze waving their friendly greetings.

95 :: spying on my husband, from a distance talking with a customer on that big tractor;
96 :: the twinkle in his eye, the gift of being a "kid" on the job!

97 :: learning a little bit about combines, and the power behind them;
98 :: a tangible moment of understanding, a glimpse, of your power.

99 :: some horses, enjoying the beauty of the day;

100 :: Towering power;
101 :: the smoke and the work-in progress;
102 :: a symbol of freedom flying high at the top;

103 :: a beautiful winding road;
104 :: remembering how most of the time, I do not see the end, but how you always take care of me, each step of the way!

105 :: Dirt. Yes dirt.
106 :: choosing to look back and look beyond the matted ground.
107 :: remember, the work that went into harvesting;

108 :: the beauty of some geese folk, congregating together in the cool of the bright blue stillness;
109 :: appreciating the quiet;
110 :: adoring the time spent with my husband, taking in such a glorious day!

111 :: a barbed wire fence intertwined with some jagged wood;
112 :: remember the crown upon your brow;
113 :: the splintered wood upon your back;
114 :: thanking you for the perfect sacrifice of your Son!

115 :: a beautiful trio at work;
116 :: yes, a beautiful trio at work in me: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

117 :: The perfect, God-ordained timing to capture the essence of team work;
118 :: being reminded of how I need to be ever seeking to assist the body of Christ;
119 :: How can I strengthen your body, Lord?

120:: And so, November brings the harvest.

Matthew 9:37

Then saith he unto his disciples,
The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are

Will YOU help the body of Christ today?

Will YOU work among the few, for His glory?
