10 Reasons Why Women Should Avoid Gossip

It can be very tricky when it comes to gossip.  Oftentimes, I can start out with pure intentions... "please pray for so and so" but then I find myself getting caught up in the drama of it all.  Pride sets in.  If you notice yourself anticipating telling that friend something about someone else, BEWARE!  Notice the red flags of conviction and don't get caught up in the thrill of your own pride.  It will only bring destruction.  Heed the truths below.

10 Reasons Why Women Should Avoid Gossip

1. Seek To Be A Faithful Friend:  Proverbs 11:13- A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.  Are you a faithful friend?  Do you have other's best interests at heart?

2. A Wise Tongue Is Healthy:  Proverbs 12:18- There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.  A gossip is very unbecoming.  If you are known to be a gossip, change your ways.  It will hurt your health otherwise.

3. It Wounds On The Inside: Proverbs 18:8- The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.  It will not only hurt the person you are gossiping about, but others and yourself!

4. You Will Reap The Consequences:  Proverbs 18:21- Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.  Your words will come back to bite you.  Choose words of grace and mercy.

5. It Will Give You A Troubled Life:  Proverbs 21:23- Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.  You can avoid trouble by not getting caught up in gossip (as the source, AND the receiver of the gossip).

6. God Says Not To!  Proverb 25:9-  Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another.  God's instruction is clear here.  It is for our benefit and His glory.

7. Stop Strife Before It Begins:  Proverbs 26:20- Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.  If you don't provide the wood, the fire can't start.

8. Speak Kindness:  Proverbs 31:26- She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.  The godly woman will speak words of pure kindness.

9. Peace Results In Pleasant Relationships: Psalm 133:1- Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!  Avoiding gossip brings pleasantness and peace.

10. You Will Be Blessed: Matthew 5:9- Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.  God will bless you for your obedience.

Where Does He Live?

PSALM 26:7-8

7 That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving,

And tell of all Your wondrous works.

8 LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house,

And the place where Your glory dwells

Are your eyes visiting places where HIS glory dwells?
Are your ears taking in things that praise HIS name?
Is your heart, soul, mind meditating on the truth of HIS Word?

Let us not only delight in the habitation of HIS house, but be that house HE can delight in.... HIS TEMPLE within us.

1 Cor. 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

{For When Your Day Begins With Failure}

Are your hands cupped, open wide towards the heavens to receive more of Him today?  Or perhaps like me, are they firmly cradled under pits, arms crossed, toes dug in deep earth, with no room to give, to receive, to be vulnerably blessed?

Your home.  Is it white with open spaces of canvas for Him to dance His fingertips across with blessings and mercy?  Allow Him to paint the beauty of His grace to echo about, singing of His faithfulness.

Through clenched teeth and constant reminders of imperfection within and without, I know I can never measure up to the numero uno critic in my life; me.

So I ask.  I come to Him in the morning... asking for an awakening in my inward parts.  Lord, make me to hear thy joy and gladness in the morning.

He answers back.  He makes me to lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul.

The world aches, yearns, leans in close for a glimpse of hope-filled eyes smiling back at them.  Will you be those eyes of answered prayer?

When eyes have lost the wonder, the sparkle, and the light has been dimmed to the point of hollow blackness, they continue to look for that last piece of Light in the dark.  Even if it is one tiny firefly, flickering with fervancy.

The shadow of the evil one's lies in the valleys of life give birth to a new day.  His mercies, that are new every morning, get quickly stomped upon, like a young child dancing on reflected asphalt.

But His Truth shines brighter.  Will you and I be the one to carry His torch of truth throughout the darkest of valleys?  His Love will saturate the heart and make the doubts flee.  The inertia of life can leave us in a choke-hold.  A garment of shame can leave us powerless to be vulnerable again, and paraplegic to change.

Will you give it over to Him?  That fear?  That lack of obedience?  Whatever it is?  Lay the rich-sod down upon a thirsty ground.  There is a stained-glass horizon of hope for you... just waiting.  Take a friend's hand along the way...

Psalm 5:11-12
11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad;

let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
12 Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

Creating Peaceful Places

Peace is hard to find in the hustle and bustle of this crazy life.  I find my days rushing here and there, no time to

stop.

breathe.

listen.

But do we look for it?

Do I {create peaceful places}?

Or am I

a creator of {crazy-unsettled-frazzled places}?

All around us people are looking for rest.  Rest in their homes.  Rest in their work.  Rest in their souls.

When people leave my presence, I need to ask myself, did I create an environment where they could find rest and encouragement?

You see, we need to cultivate this countenance of peace.

When your husband, children, friends and family leave your side, are they more anxious or more at rest?

Really think for a moment.

Online, I always find rest over here and here.  Love them girlies!

Thank you ANN

and EMILY

for creating a space online that brings peace and encouragement to the hearts of women like me!

Matthew 5:9:

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Do We Love God More Than {Fill In The Blank}

Do I sincerely LOVE GOD more than...

Father
Mother
Husband
Sister
Brother
Children

....

you can fill in the blank with what you treasure the most on this earth.

Sometimes I (sinfully) entertain negative thoughts of the "what ifs" in life.

What if something ever happened to my husband?  Lord, how could I possibly go on.?

Oh Lord, what if something ever happened to one of my children?

The fact is, I need to daily cultivate my relationship with HIM, so much in fact, that I LOVE HIM far above family, time, or possessions.

Do I trust that He holds my very breath in the palm of His hand?

Do I choose to honor His Sovereignty and release the white-knuckle control of my life, over to Him?

The thing is... He is God.  There is no changing Him.  It is my job just to trust that He does know best.

Do you struggle with this?  Loving other earthly things (especially the people most dear to us) more than God?

God can take anything away from us in an instant... then what?

Will we {I} still choose to trust and honor Him?

Luke 14:26 "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."

How To Guard Against Bitterness In Marriage

Are you participating in the Love Dare here at Ordinary Inspirations?  Have you ever done anything like this before... and found yourself becoming bitter when you don't see positive results from your sweet husband?

I remember reading this book, and feeling very boxed in and I found myself getting bitter towards my husband.  I foolishly thought that I could follow a formula and bing bang boom... I'd have the perfect marriage.

For many of us, we start out with good, pure intentions.  Invest in our marriage.  Check.  But what about when we don't get the results we are dreaming of?

Some Questions/Guidelines:

1) Are you loving/serving your husband because the Lord has given you the grace and joy to do it?  If not, why are you doing it?

2) Do you have unrealistic expectations of him?  Does he even know that you are going the extra mile?

3) Are you willing to love sacrificially even if you don't see results on his part (right away or at all)?

4) Don't ever ever ever wish your husband was like "so and so's" husband.  This is a slippery slope that will lead to resentment, negative thinking, and adulterous behavior (even if it is only in your mind).

5) Remember that your husband is not perfect.  He is a work in progress.  (And so are you).  Remember and mull over the qualities that drew you to him in the first place.  Write them down.  Think about them.  Cultivate a garden of praise in your mind with your husband's name on it!

6) Are you trying to change your husband or are you asking the Lord to change you?  Only God can change a heart.  That includes your husband.

7) Remember, you are pleasing the Lord when you honor and respect your husband.  In order to respect your husband, you need to be thinking positive thoughts of him throughout the day.  If we spend our whole day thinking things like "I wish he would do this" or "why can't he notice what I'm doing around here and appreciate it" you will end up disappointed big time!

8) Treat him like the best friend he should be.  Talk to him pleasantly.  Treat him with tender kindness.  Be there for him no matter what.

Have you been struggling with bitterness towards your husband?  Is it something that you use to struggle with but that God has given you the strength to overcome?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

10 Superbowl Dips To Make Your Party A Hit!

I've always loved football.  The crisp night air, wrapped in a big, cozy blanket firmly planted on a cold bleacher seat, whistles blowing and hot cocoa in hand.  The atmosphere is invigorating.

Don't get me wrong... I love my high heels, dresses and chick flicks too!

Are you going to be watching the superbowl?  I really don't have a favorite team this year, but it is still fun to watch.

It's not too late to get some essentials from the store to make any of these fun dips!

Here's a few I found online that look really great.  Which one looks the best to you?

Cleaning Tip For Those Pesky Sippy Cups!

Have you ever tried cleaning the top of a sippy cup?  You know, the inside crevice around the hole?

Pesky huh!

I've tried several things but toothpicks work great.  Not the regular, wooden ones... they brake almost instantly.

The plastic, cocktail toothpicks!

Just be careful not to fling the nasty goop in your eye.

Yeah.... not fun.
