Your Blog

Your blog.

Side note... have you ever said a word over and over and realized how silly it really sounds?

blog. blog. blog.

Okay, now that THAT is out of my system.

Your blog is your blog... as long as you don't keep giving it back to God.  Sometimes I sit and wonder, "what should I write about today?"  But God showed me (reminded me) today, that this space online is not my own.  Anything that God has given us... should be given back to Him as a gift; to bring Him glory.

When our blog is our own... it is just a blog.

When our blog is God's... it can be something spectacular!

Have you given your blog to God today?

Your Testimony Matters!

You may not realize it, but you have a testimony.  A testimony is all about a story.  His story.

A story that is birthed from the pangs of life-labor, a deep toiling of intensity that brings about a beautiful end to it all.  A glorious gift.

It births HOPE.  Are you sharing that HOPE?

You may not think your story is worthy.  That no one really wants to hear it... whatever your story may be.

But SOMEONE needs to hear it.  Today.  This very second.

Will you give someone hope today?  Our story is nothing unless we can point others to Jesus.

Tell them.  Tell the world how Jesus gave you victory.  Freedom.

What has He given you victory over?  What has He brought you from?  How has He changed YOU?

Don't stay silent...

Mommy Of 3 Moment

These posts will be about the crazy things that happen around my home, now being a mother of 3!

My friend Amy says, "kids kill brain cells but add lots of love!"

Carson (our 2 year old son) came up to me in the kitchen today and said, "Grant didn't want my animal cracker."  (Grant is our 3 week old baby)
aka: #mommymortification

While trying to make a simple batch of out-of-the box brownies, I managed to add 3 eggs instead of 1.  I even added frosting to those bad boys, and they still taste nasty!  aka:#diettrickforsillymommies

Apple Crisp Recipe

You know that I love simple and good recipes.  Here's a really easy Betty Crocker version of a fall favorite:  Apple Crisp!

4 medium tart cooking apples
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup quick-cooking or old-fashion oats
1/3 cup butter or stick margarine, softened
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Heat oven to 375.
Grease bottom and sides of a 8x8x2 pan with shortening.
Spread apples in pan.
Mix remaining ingredients and sprinkle over apples.
Bake 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with fork.

My favorite part: Top with some vanilla ice cream!

7 Tips For A Clean Inbox

7 simple and practical tips for keeping your email inbox clean.

1) DELETE!  Delete emails that you finish reading or know you won't read.
2) UNSUBSCRIBE.  Unsubscribe to those sites that you don't stay up to date with or just subscribed to for a temporary reason.
3) STOP SCROLLING.  If you have to scroll down, there are too many emails in your inbox.  This takes daily de-cluttering, I know.  But it only takes a moment.  I think that my screen fits about 29 emails on my screen without having to scroll down.
4) USE YOUR FOLDERS.  Create folders for important emails that you will need to refer back to.
5) SPAM IT!  Those pesky emails that you keep getting?  Mark them as spam and send them to the dreaded trash bin.
6) SAY NO TO NOTIFICATIONS.  You don't need to be notified when someone comments on your facebook wall, twitter feed, or blog.  Take off all the unnecessary notifications.
7) RESPOND RIGHT AWAY.  If you are like me, many times you think "oh, I'll get back to that person later" and you leave their email sitting in your inbox.  Either respond right away, or have a folder labeled "Respond Later Today"... Don't let email sit in your inbox to rot and be forgotten about.

Capturing Beauty

Capturing Beauty will return Spring, 2012!  Stay Tuned!

It's funny I have a blog.  Not funny, like ha ha, but funny like ironic.

I hated English class in school... I avoided anything creative and spontaneous.  I hid behind classes with computers, math, and science...

and now... I love to write.  To create.  To capture beauty.

Whether it is through the written word, or through my camera lens, I love to stop time and remember the moments...

So, every Monday, here at Ordinary Inspirations, we are going to CAPTURE BEAUTY.

All week you will have time to pick your very favorite picture (taken by YOU).  Give it a title.

On Monday, post it on your blog and link back to my Monday "Capture Beauty" post.  Link up with your blog post and I will pick my very favorite.  If we have more than 25 to link up, I will pick my top favorite 2!

Grab this button if you'd like and JOIN THE FUN:

What Our Husband Needs More Than Sex

Yes, our husbands need intimacy.  It's probably on their minds more than we realize.  But there is something else they need even more...

our respect.
our admiration.
our cheering.
our confidant glance.
our honor and reverence.

There has been a lot out there in the media about this.  Books like Love and Respect... showing that what women need is love and what men need is respect.

Mentally, we can take note of this... and agree.  But what does our body language say?  Does it disagree with what we say we believe?

If we could carry around a mirror, that showed our facial expressions, the shifting of our weight to one hip, hand firmly planted with a heavy sigh, would we be surprised at what we saw?

Our husbands need to know that we back them up 100%.  What areas can we show our respect?

1) Their work.  Engage in conversation about their profession.  Always be the one to tell them they are a hard worker and doing a great job.

2) Their interests.  Whether they are interested in sports, music, or all of the above, try and show a little excitement about what they enjoy.  Maybe even sit down and watch some football with them?

3) Their passions.  Take note on what they are passionate about.  What really gets your husband fired up and excited about?  Support that... even if it is the dream of a sports car one day, like my husband.

4) Their leading of the home.  Even if they aren't the best spiritual leader, we can still trust them with the leading of our home. We are told to.  Let them lead.

5) Their discipline and teaching of our children.  Support their efforts to be a good dad and encourage them with regard to the way they interact with our children.  Praise them for what they do well.

6) Their relationship with the Lord.  Keep praying for your husband.  Their number one relationship should be with the Lord Jesus.  Don't nag them about having a personal quiet time/prayer time... just keep praying.  Talk about what you are learning and what God is teaching each of you.

7) The home.  I know that I have learned that my husband likes a "picked up" house when he gets home from work.  It doesn't have to be perfect or scrubbed clean, but he does like walking into a home where toys are picked up and put back in their place.  Order.  What does your husband like?  Respect him by trying to keep up with what he likes.

8) Our finances.  I'm more of a spender than a saver.  I've always been that way.  My husband is a much better "money manager" than me.  I've learned that I need to respect his wishes when it comes to how we spend money as a family.  Come to a healthy agreement on what works best for your household.

9) Our body.  When we get married, our body is no longer our own.  We have become one flesh with our husband.  Sometimes I like to claim that my body is my own.  On days that I've been spit up on, pooped on, clung to by little people... the last thing I want to do or have energy to do is be intimate with my husband.  But this is just another area where we can die to our flesh and respect our husband and his desires.

With all these things, there is balance.  Marriage flourishes best when there is teamwork, mutual respect, love, and WORK on both the woman AND the man's part.  But we can only do our part... and trust that God will work in our husband's life.

Do you have anything to add?

Verses:

Eph. 5:22- Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
Prov. 31:10-12- An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.
Eph. 5:33-However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Gen. 2:18-Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

When You Feel Like Your Day Isn't Productive

When you feel like you are behind,
when you just can't catch up with your own thoughts swirling around in your head...

When you clean up the same mess 10 times throughout the day, only to bend down and clean it up an 11th time...

When your patience is thinning to almost nil',
and you feel as though you just might break...

When all you do seems to not be good enough,
and kids fight, the dog makes a mess, and diapers blow...

Close your eyes... and say a little prayer...

Lord give me strength.  You are the author of my day.  May I look to you for every ounce of might and purpose.  When I feel like I'm not getting ahead in my day, may I remember that I just need to glorify you in the LIVING.

Some Thoughts On Saying Too Much...

God has entrusted (most of us) with a family.  Within that family there is liberty to make decisions based on what is best for that family.

As Christians, sometimes we think that giving our opinion on certain topics is okay, even when it isn't asked for.

Let's say for instance topics like:

  • working moms vs. stay at home moms
  • nursing babies vs. feeding formula
  • birth control vs. using no form of protection
  • sending kids to school vs. homeschooling
  • natural birth vs. med assisted

There is a nice way to go about sharing our viewpoints (because we all have one)... and there is a an UGLY way about it.

The ugly way about it gives no grace, no freedom to trust that God is working within that said family unity, etc.

Your thoughts?  Sometimes what we think doesn't really matter.  We should just pray that we make the right decisions for our own family and let God work in other people's homes.

As mothers, (especially) I feel we can cut other moms down the most.

Why is that?

What if, instead, we came alongside one another and really spread some encouragement with our words, hearts, and actions?

Riley's First Day Of School!

Riley did awesome and she was so excited.  She kept saying, "when is the bus going to get here?"

On the other hand, Mommy and Daddy broke down in tears when the bus pulled away!

Where does the time go?
